Invisalign is a useful treatment for correcting orthodontic problems. Using these clear plastic aligners, you can straighten your smile without anyone noticing that you are wearing braces. However, if your aligners get stained, they will be more noticeable. Use these tips to keep your Invisalign braces clean.

1. Regular Cleaning

Just like teeth, Invisalign braces require cleaning every day to prevent stains from building up. Clean your retainers every morning and evening before or after you brush your teeth.

2. Eating and Drinking Without Braces

You can drink water while wearing Invisalign braces, but try to avoid consuming drinks that typically cause dental staining, like coffee, black tea and red wine. If you want to indulge in those beverages, take your Invisalign braces out first. You should also remove your retainers before you eat to keep them clean.

3. Rinsing with Cold Water

It is possible for very hot water to deform Invisalign braces. Use cold or cool water to regularly rinse your retainers to protect their shape.

4. Using A Soft Toothbrush

It is important to use a toothbrush that has soft bristles to gently scrub your Invisalign braces each day. If you use a brush that has hard bristles, you could scratch the surface of the aligners. Use only gentle pressure to avoid bending or breaking your braces during cleaning.

5. Choosing the Right Cleaning Product

Your dentist will probably give you a product that you can use to clean your Invisalign braces. If you run out of this cleaning solution, get in touch with your dentist to ask for some more. Toothpaste is too abrasive for cleaning soft plastic aligners, so do not resort to using it. A better option than toothpaste is to use a mild, unperfumed soap and rinse the braces well before you put them back in your mouth.

6. Good Dental Hygiene

If your teeth and gums are not clean, they will transfer plaque and tartar to your Invisalign braces. Remember to brush your teeth every day to keep them free from dental plaque. During your Invisalign treatment, you should also floss every day to remove stubborn bits of food and plaque from the gaps between the teeth.

7. Soaking to Remove Stains

If your Invisalign braces start to develop stains, soak them in a denture cleaning solution while you sleep. In the morning, rinse them well and reinsert them so they can carry on their good work of realigning your smile.
